Engine Idling Management System
Slashing Engine Idling Behavior through Process and Technology
OEM Data Delivery, a leading developer of rugged electronic tools for managing worksites and high-end equipment, introduces a solution that will save you money and reduce emissions. Through the EQUIPCHAT engine idling management system, owners and managers have the tools to reduce and sustain their improvement in engine idling.
The EQUIPCHAT Engine Idling Management System incorporates hardware and software to affect fleet management behavior. The system employs the continuous improvement cycle called Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA) by Edwards Deming.
There are 2 PDCA cycles that OEM Data Delivery guides their customers through:
Phase 1 – Implementation
- Plan – Identify the responsibilities and equipment’s acceptable idling targets.
- Do – Install the hardware.
- Check – Monitor idling activity via EQUIPCHAT email and reports.
- Act – Adjust the targets through EQUIPCHAT’s rapid-entry forms, train operators or motivate the team for improvement.
Phase 2 – Sustain
- Plan – Set fleet objectives.
- Do – Move the idling targets downward on EQUIPCHAT.
- Check – Monitor idling activity via EQUIPCHAT email and reports.
- Act – Adjust the targets through EQUIPCHAT’s rapid-entry forms, train operators or motivate the team for improvement.

About Edwards Deming
He was a visionary, whose tireless quest for the “truth” and unwavering belief in “continual improvement” led to a set of transformational theories and teachings that changed the way we think about quality, management and leadership.
He was an eminent scholar and teacher in American academia for more than half a century. He published hundreds of original papers, articles and books covering a wide range of interrelated subjects—from statistical variance, to systems and systems thinking, to human psychology. He was a trusted consultant to influential business leaders, powerful corporations and governments around the world. This includes inspiring and guiding the spectacular rise of Japanese industry after World War II, and the resurgence of the American automobile industry in the late 1980s.
The impact of his revolutionary ideas has been compared to those of Copernicus, Darwin and Freud. Others have referred to him as the father of the third phase of the Industrial Revolution.
